A bit of history, tradition and trivia about panettone

Why is panettone called panettone?

 

There are several legends about the birth of the typical Milanese dessertbut the most credited is that it was Tonia humble scullion in the service of Ludovico the Moorto invent it. The cook of the Sforza was commissioned to bake a cake for the Christmas Daybut by mistake he burnt it. The scullery worker Toni decided to sacrifice the sourdough panettone which he had kept aside for himself to help the cook.
He added flourbuttereggssultanascandied fruit e sugar until a soft and fragrant dough. The cake was such a success that when asked by the duke what it was called, the cook replied that it was 'Il pan de Toni', i.e. the panettone.

 

In the midst of this cultural revolution, gastronomy also had its heyday. The panettone, the typical Italian Christmas cake, is accompanied by several legends, but the most famous one concerns precisely Ludovico il Moro and his family.

 

You know when the word panettone in the dictionary?

 

The first time the word panettone was entered in the dictionary was in 1606 and more precisely we refer to the Milanese-Italian glossary.

The term Panaton was reported as a typical, particularly thick local bread, which was usually rolled out to celebrate Christmas.

As much as two centuries later, Panaton was inextricably linked to "Panaton de Natal"as a linguistic alternative.

Some ingredients are also included in the definition, such as wheat, butter, eggs, sugar and sultanas.
